MCRR No. 6 Baldwin Engine (11"x13")
In 1960, MCRR purchased the N0. 6 Baldwin Engine and it became the first locomotive to operate on the Midwest Central Railroad in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. It was the MCRR's main road engine until 1971, when it was taken out of service to be rebuilt. The rebuild took 17 years to complete and in 1988 once again became the main engine for the MCRR. MCRR NO. 9 Shay Engine (11"x13")
The No. 9 Shay type locomotive was built by Lima Locomotive Works, Lima Ohio, in 1923. All wheels are driven by three 12"x15" vertical engines through a flexible drive line and gear reduction, all on the right hand side. The boiler sits off center to compensate for the weight of the engines. This 80-ton locomotive is one of the three largest narrow gauge Shays ever built. GREAT VALUE.
