The Massey-Harris 44 first entered the market in 1946 as a Standard-Tread and in 1947 as a Row-Crop. After the war, farmers were looking for new tractors with increased horsepower and good fuel economy. Massey-Harris 44 offered both. The 44 was equipped with a 260 cubic-inch four-cylinder gasoline engine that tested at 45.64 horsepower. The 44 was also available in distillate, and LPG models. In 1948, the 44 Diesel was introduced, offering excellent fuel economy and durability. The hitch-all three-point hitch, Depth-o-matic hydraulic system and live PTO were all optional features. The 44 was offered in row-crop, single front, standard tread, adjustable front axle, high-clearance and orchard models. This tractor was manufactured in Canada, Scotland, and the United States. It was one of the company's finest and most popular tractors of its time.
