As farms were expanding in size, more powerful machinery was in demand. Oliver responded with an all new fleet of Super tractors in 1954. The Super 88 was promoted as the most powerful tractor in its class. It featured a high compression 265 cubic inch six-cylinder engine and durable six-speed transmission. The Super 88 broke all existing records for power and fuel economy. It delivered 30 percent more power than the old model 88 with nearly a 10 percent increase in fuel economy. The Super 88 delivered 50 drawbar horsepower and was rated to pull three 16 inch plow bottoms. It was equipped with with an all new three-point hitch, Hydra-Lectric hydraulic lift system, and Direct Drive Power Takeoff. This power takeoff allowed machinery to be operated even when the tractor was not moving.
