In a continuing effort to improve the famous Farmall tractor line, International Harvester presented the model 450 in 1956. The 450 was powered by a larger 281 cubic inch four-cylinder engine which made it a true four-bottom tractor. It was available in gasoline, diesel, and LP gas versions. The 450 offered all the popular Farmall features including the heavy-duty Fast-Hitch implement mounting, Hydra-Touch implement control system, live PTO and the exclusive Torque Amplifier, an IH innovation in farm tractors. The "TA" system offered ten forward speeds and could be shifted on-the-go, at any time. It provided a power downshift to get through tough spots without stopping to downshift the main transmission. The 450 also sported a stylish two-tone paint job. In 1957 Traction Control was added as a standard feature, making the 450 even more popular in the farming industry.
