Farmall Model 400 1954-1956 (14"x17")

International Harvester introduced the numbered series in 1954. The stylish new model 400 was the replacement for the popular Super MTA. The 400 featured a four-cylinder engine, which for the first time, produced over 50 horsepower in a Farmall. The gasoline version produced 45hp. at the drawbar and 51hp. at the belt. A diesel and LP gas models were also available. New features included the Fast-Hitch for improved implement mounting and Hydra-Touch, a live hydralic implement control system. The 400 also featured a live PTO and the popular Torque Amplifier, an IH innovation in farm tractors. The "TA" system offered ten forward speeds and could be shifted on-the-go, at any time, providing a power downshift to get through tough spots without stopping to downshift the main transmission. The 400 was a fine example of the improvements being made in the tractor industry.
