In response to the need for more powerful tractors, John Deere introduced a totally new line in August of 1960. Referred to as the "new generation" of power, these historic tractors were the first by John Deere to feature an engine with more than two-cylinders. This new line introduced engineering concepts that would soon revolutionize farming. The Model 4010 featured new body styling with a strong six-cylinder engine. It was offered in diesel, gasoline or LP-gas versions and was rated at 84 PTO hp. The 4010 was available in standard, row crop, Hi-Crop or industrial models. It featured a 3-point hitch, power steering and a new hydraulic system which delivered instant power to multiple independent circuits. The 4010 also offered hydraulic power brakes, an industry first. The posture seat and controls were designed to set a new standard for operator comfort and convenience.
