The Model 50 was one of the first numbered tractors in the John Deere line. Introduced in 1952, it replaced the very popular Model B. The numbered series was the first to have a seperate carburetor for each cylinder, providing improved fuel efficiency and increased horsepower. It was also the first John Deere with a ciutch-controlled live powershaft for operating PTO-driven equipment. The 50 featured an independently operated Powr-Trol hydraulic system for easier handling of heavier equipment. Another important feature was a newly designed rack-and-pinion rear wheel tread adjustment, an industry first, which made changing rear tread width an easier operation. The 50 was one of the first John Deere tractors to offer a choice of gasoline, "all fuel", or LP gas engines. It also offered a variety of front-end and rear axle options to handle any row-crop need.
